What is Windows As a Service?

Instead of having periodic major releases, Windows 10 intends to transition into a product that is continually updated with changes in the background. Current users of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 at no additional cost. Those who choose to upgrade to Windows 10 will receive updates for the lifetime of the device. Once you’re locked into Windows 10, you will maintain an updated version through a constant stream of upgrades. Microsoft will keep all of these upgrades free to existing users. Users will no longer have to wait for new features and capabilities, as they become downloadable directly to Windows. This will prevent fragmentation where people are running different variations of Windows. Microsoft has introduced, with Windows 10, a seamless operating system between laptop, tablet, and phone. For Windows users this shift towards free, incremental change is undoubtedly favorable to larger system updates.
